NASAs Gravity Probe B (GP-B) set vehicle, strengthened, integrated and tested by Lockheed Martin, roared into space in April, descent a 16-month mission that will attempt to verify two subtle physical effects predicted by Albert Einsteins General Theory of Relativity. GP-B is expected to begin science operations early this summer. The launch, from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California, was the shutdown of nearly two decades of research, development and production for the GP-B team.
