Race and My Community Jeff Ford The state of Georgia has seen many ups and downs in its bill of dealing with matters of race. Being a southern state, many ominous Americans and early(a) minority groups have had a difficult term in becoming prominent citizens in the state of Georgia. whiten Americans have had a stronghold in Georgia end-to-end its history in regards to politics, media, and high take aim corporate jobs. As a White American I have firsthand experience in some of the discriminations that many obscure Americans and other minority groups have had to suffer. Some of the things that I have witnessed firsthand are media bias, unspoken segregation, and racial tension. Each champion of these examples is derived from maven race group mistreating another simply on the pedestal of race. As mentioned before, Georgia has had a history of racism and Black Americans being persecuted for no other reason than being black. The close to infamous event of racism is stated clearly by Kathy Lohr in her report on the history of racism in Georgia. On a warm and sultry Saturday, on Sept. 22, 1906, thousands of whites in Atlanta joined together in the downtown sweep and began attacking and killing blacks in the city. The violence continued for four days.

By the official count, 12 blacks and two whites were killed. Although many historians reckon stacks were murdered, the 1906 race riot has not been commemorated or taught in schools until now ( Lohr, 2009). The main reason that this event has not been taught in public schools is that many politicians and business leaders did not privation to destroy the reputation of its up and coming city of Atlanta.
