Mrs. Mallard

In the story The Story of an Hour, written by Chopin, the protagonist, Mrs. Mallard, lives in the Victorian era where woman are repressed and restrict to limited roles. If a woman deviated from these expectations she was not considered a fit Victorian lady. Under these circumstances, Mrs. Mallard is still poor-spirited and inhuman hearted.
The best characteristic to describe Mrs. Mallard is cowardly. Her cowardly disposition is best portrayed in her final stage. After only a few minutes of grieving over the death of her husband, she begins to notice free and happy. She becomes more and more excited about the animateness she is sledding to have at one time that her husband is free. She could live all and she would live for herself. (Chopin 653) This possible freedom would all go remote as her husband would show up at the door looking far from the scene of an accident, and did not even survive there had been one.
