Reconstruction was meant to bring the country back unitedly which in some meanss it did but in that location be many things that went terribly slander with the now freed break ones backs. What the freed men wanted was to beat their life back to start a family and to cash in ones chips and thrive off their own crops, to get jobs and to start dungeon their life the way they did until the were forced into sla very. So many things went wrong for the freed men because they lacked a simple education. There was one way the freedmen wanted Reconstruction to go and then at that places the actual way Reconstruction went.
Freedmen wanted Reconstruction to be serve wellful to help to get the once imprisoned to the get goings class. Congress tried to implement so many things to help out the now free. They tried to pass the southern homestead acts to help the slaves get land. The Freedmens bureau tried to take a crap schools to teach the freedmen. But in the end things just didnt go their way. The real way Reconstruction was a very brutal and not so reconstructive way.
The Freed slaves were tricked into signing pledges to work for their previous slave owners if they gave them a piece of his land. But there was no way for a slave to read the contract with out a formal education.
So in the comely print there would be things saying how much the slave would owe the landowner each year that would progressively get larger and larger so the freedmen would go deeper and deeper into debt. Also there was the KKK the Klu Klux Klan. They were white supremacists that, no matter what would do anything to prevent the origin slave from being free. They terrorized the freed into doing things they didnt want to do. Things like forcing them to vote for people/presidents they didnt want to.
As you can understand the Freedman had big plans for reconstruction. But their plans were shut down by different organizations, and even by the Government.
